Our conviction
ReAct Transnational (Network for Transnational Collective Action) is an NGO born in 2010 to fight growing social and income inequalities and the climate and environmental crisis. Both are caused primarily by the domination of the powerful monied few, whose interests are destroying of the planet and its ecosystems. To meet the current crisis, we need to support and unite many forms of direct action by workers' unions and citizens' groups. To exert their potential, these need structure and international coordinated. This is how to make the current status quo untenable for investors, and so open up new, democratic spaces which sustainable, systemic change requires.
We stand on the shoulders of giants and have grown out of the labor movement; we are following in the footsteps of generations of activists for social and democratic progress. ReAct Transnational believes that organizing at every scale is key to success: from strong local unions to powerful transnational alliances we are challenging public and private decision-makers to improve the lives of the poorest.
In 2021, ReAct changed its name to ReAct Transnational to reaffirm its scale of action.
Our approach
ReAct Transnational supports trade unions and helps people's organizations around the world organize locally. We help build national and transnational alliances and we coordinate campaigns to make their fights successful. We provide tools, document andhare successful experiences, we offer training and supply organizers. Our organizers serve as mobilization facilitators to spark and strengthen workers' and citizens' unions. In addition, ReAct Transnational campaigners reinforce the power of the grassroots action by facilitating coordination at national and transnational levels to inform clients and political decision-makers.
To do this, ReAct Transnational acts on two fronts:
- We organize and facilitate trade union workers' organizations, for these are the pioneers of our history of great social victories and they are its future. To help with a newal of organized labor, ReAct Transnational innovative methods of collective organization by the most vulnerable workers furthest from Union protection, and it helps national and local unions act on a transnational scale. Via the Global Labor Institute we provide training to those who struggle to make the trade union movement the engine of for the radical ecological and social transformation of society we need.
- Our organizers are at work to build a broad eco-union movement: the organization of citizens on the front lines of the ecological struggle against the destruction of life itself. To this end, ReAct Transnational takes inspiration from trade union methods, to build “eco-unions” capable of forcing those who profit from “ecocide” to change their practices.
Our resources
In 2022, ReAct Transnational deploys five permanent staff between Paris and Lyon. We also train and support affiliated organizers within the ACORN International network, to which we are affiliated, to strengthen the local unions involved in the campaigns.
ReAct Transnational's financial resources are largely based on support from trade union organizations, private foundations and individual donations.Marielle Benchehboune
